We see Tony at work, at home, and in therapy. Moments of black comedy intersperse this aggressive, adult drama, with adult language, and extreme violence.

Season 1 Ep.01: The Sopranos Pilot
Tony Soprano, a Capo in the Jersey mafia, begins seeing a therapist because he is stricken by panic attacks. During his session, Dr. Melfi learns of his two conflicted families. Tony is stressed by his unhappy wife, rebellious kids and his demanding mother. On the business side, Tony feels pressure from his willful nephew, while also engaging in a power struggle with his Uncle Junior.
Meet Tony Soprano: your average, middle-aged businessman. Tony’s got a dutiful wife. A not-so-dutiful son. A daughter named Meadow. An uncle who’s losing his marbles. A hot-headed nephew. A not-too-secret mistress. And a shrink to tell all his secrets, except the one she already knows:
Tony’s a mob boss whose troubles are wrapped up in his two families. These days, it’s getting tougher and tougher to make a killing in the killing business. Just because you’re ‘made’ doesn’t mean you’ve got it made.
Tony Soprano leads two lives, one where he is a good family man to his wife, two children, and his widowed mother and the other as part of the New Jersey mafia. He soon begins suffering from panic attacks and he begins seeing a female psychiatrist, Dr. Jennifer Melfi, which he knows if members of the “family” find out, he will be killed. Meanwhile, Tony’s Uncle Junior wants to use Tony’s childhood friend, Artie’s, restaurant to whack a guy by the name of Pussy Malenga.
