The Painted Stallion
Episode 3:The Death Leap
Knocked unconscious by Macklin (Maston Williams) and about to drown in the raging river, Clark Stuart (Ray Corrigan) is rescued in the nick of time by juvenile scout wannabe Kit Carson (Sammy McKim). The rest of the wagon train makes it safely across the river but the villainous Macklin manages to escape. Stuart and Kit track him down to the gang’s mountain hideout, where they learn that Bull Smith (Charles King) has the Mystery Rider cornered on a plateau. Riding hell bent for leather, Stuart takes up the fight to save the Rider (Julia Thayer), who, to his astonishment, turns out to be a young girl. With Smith and the gang closing in, Stuart and the Rider are forced over a cliff and into the lake below.
Alarmed by Mexico’s independence from Spain, and by the new government’s interest in formalizing relations with America, Santa Fe despot Dupray fears the loss of his outlaw empire. Determined to remain in power, he sends a band of his men to massacre the Jamison wagon train, which is heading toward Santa Fe with diplomat Clark Stuart in tow. If Stuart manages to meet with the new Mexican government, Dupray knows that he and his misbegotten fortune are finished. But this is no ordinary wagon train – along for the ride are famous pioneers Jim Bowie, Davy Crockett, and a young stowaway by the name of Kit Carson. As Dupray puts one plan after another into action, Stuart and his band of scouts are watched over by the legendary “Painted Stallion” and its mysterious rider, whose whistling arrows warnpioneers of impending danger on the trail.
