An Indian agent asks Hoppy to help persuade an Indian chief to reveal the location where crude oil can be found on the land’s surface. The country will be opened to settlement and unless the tribe agrees to contract with oil companies before homestead claims can be filed, an outsider might grab the land and prevent the Indians from earning income from the oil wells.

William Boyd’s Hopalong Cassidy – a do-gooder cowboy, with a characteristic tall black hat – bears the distinction of being one of the only western heroes of his ilk to make smooth segue from silent films to talkies to television, and he was also one of the first actors to take advantage of his character’s popularity with a huge merchandising push. The TV episodes – which ran from 1949 through 1951 on NBC – essentially followed the same formula as the big screen pictures, and also featured Cassidy’s horse, Topper, and his sidekick, Red Connors (Edgar Buchanan). Hoppie’s old movies had proved very popular TV fare from 1945 on. This series followed the same plot format: black-clad, grey-haired Hopalong and his horse Topper catching badguys with Red Connors for comic relief.

Season 2 Ep.12: A Way of Justice

John Cannon is accused of killing the daughter of a Mexican sheepherder and is condemned to death unless steep ransom is paid. Escaped convicts Mitch, Cable, and Kolos accidentally kill the girl while heading for Tucson to reclaim stolen money. They escape the sheepherders by forcing John to change into the prison clothing of the inarticulate Kolos. John is captured and condemned to death, but Manolito promises money for John’s release. Buck and Billy Blue fail to raise the ransom

High Chaparral was the name given to the ranch owned and operated by the Cannon family in the Arizona Territory during the 1870′s. Stubborn, proud Big John Cannon (Leif Erickson) is unceasing in his determination to carve a life in the untamed land. Frequently at odds with Big John is his firebrand of a younger brother Buck (Cameron Mitchell) and John’s sensitive son, Billy Blue (Mark Slade). After his first wife’s death, Big John marries Victoria (Linda Cristal), daughter of wealthy Mexican Land-owner, Don Sebastian Montoya (Frank Silvera) as a political alliance. Her roguish brother Manolito (Henry Darrow) accompanies her to the Cannon ranch and becomes a permanent member of the household. Sam Butler (Don Collier) is hired as the ranch foreman, while his brother Joe (Bob Hoy) along with Reno (Ted Markland), Pedro (Roberto Contreras), Ira (Jerry Summers), and Vaquero (Rudolfo Acosta) are the hard-working, fun-loving ranch hands. Family differences, the conflicts between the Indians and the Americans, and the ever-present threats from rustlers and renegades all provided materials for the stories in the series. A number of cast changes occurred in the program’s last seasons. The character of Blue Cannon was dropped. Ranch hands Ira and Reno left. Added to the cast was Wind (Rudy Ramos), a half-Pawnee youth who became a member of the Cannon bunkhouse.

Trying to push a herd through late in the season is just one of the hurdles facing Gil. A hand who insists on covering his face and a visitor who says his horse came up lame are two others. When he uncovers the truth it may be too late.

Set in the 1860s, Rawhide portrays the challenges faced by the men of a cattle drive. There are 20-25 riders looking after 3,000 head of cattle. Gil (short for Gilbert Favor) revealed this is about the maximum manageable size for a herd of cows. The cattle drive begins in San Antonio, Texas, and makes its way along the Sedalia Trail (Sedalia, the final destination, is in Missouri about 50 miles east from Kansas City). The herd is estimated to be worth about $50,000–60,000 if sold at market and represents a pool of cattle from approximately 200 owners. The trail boss carries a considerable sum of cash for all necessities and all possible emergencies. Pay was a dollar a day and “all you can eat” for the drovers. Riding drag was often a punishment since it was behind the herd, so a rider would pick up all of the herd’s dust. Drives had a remuda, a pool of extra horses. If something happened to a man’s horse, he would be useless without an instant replacement.

The Wild Wild West ran for four seasons, and featured the adventures of two Secret Service Agents working for President Ulysses S. Grant. The two men were James West, former Union soldier and current man-of-action, gunman, and womanizer. His partner was Artemus Gordon, a former con man and master of disguise and invention. Together, the two fought various menaces aimed at the United States and President Grant, as well as investigating other Federal crimes. Riding on the post-James Bond spy craze of the 60′s, WWW featured not only all of the typical “spy gimmicks” like boot knives, miniature explosives, and spike-firing grapple guns, but featured a variety of criminal masterminds wielding high-tech items (for 1880) like robot squids, cyborgs, exo-skeletons, steam-powered giant puppets, earthquake machines, hallucinogenic drugs, shrinking potions, and much much more. Their major nemesis, the diminutive Dr. Miguelito Loveless, was a master of such gadgets and gizmos. The show’s producers and writers mixed all of these with typical Western movie conventions, a nod to the old movie serials, and some modern-day stylings as well to produce a unique series that has rarely been seen since.

Season 2 Ep.18: The Glory Soldiers

Manolito leaves the routine of the Cannon Ranch searching excitement and becomes involved with three uniformed musicians. Mano contemplated joining El Lobo, his old bandit friend, until he learns El Lobo has robbed Capt. Ellie Strong and her two followers. He steals money from the bandit to finance Capt. Strong’s trip to Tombstone to escape El Lobo and the Mexican authorities, who seek Manolito’s capture for petty crimes. Buck takes an interest in Capt. Strong and joins the group. The success of the trip appears questionable when El Lobo, Apaches and Mexican authorities appear.

Loved By The Buffalo believes he has found the foretold prophet when a mysterious Indian named Wokova inspires his people with the Ghost Dance and a vision of their restored land. But the ritual stirs up more fear among those who wish to contain the Indians. Sitting Bull is “accidentally” killed, further inciting the Ghost Dance rebellion, which in turn, leads to more brutality toward the Indians. As the circle closes, Loved By The Buffalo and Jacob meet again. Reunited with his family, Loved By The Buffalo resolves to pass on his Lakota traditions to the next generation so that their ways continue to live on.

A half-crazed southern colonel comes into Favor’s camp one evening with a pretty woman and announces he’s hiring men to help him set up a new Confederate empire.
