This is the chronicles of the family of Cartwright and is set in the city of Virginia in Nevada.
The Ponderosa Ranch which is of thousand square mile in area is owned by Ben Cartwright who is a widower.

He has sons who are born to different wives and his wives are not alive. The eldest among his sons, Adam is of a serious and contemplative nature. The middle son is Hoss who is huge as a mountain yet very gentle and not a very bright person. The youngest of the lot is Little Joe who is both impulsive and romantic. Bonanza is the story of these three men, collectively and individually, their interests in ranching and mining, and on the people who cross the paths of these men.

Victor Sen Yung plays the role of the Chinese immigrant family cook Hop Sing in this series. The series of Bonanza was considered as a Western due to the story which revolved more on the characters Ben and his sons, their love towards each other and justified causes and it stresses less on ranching.

The Ponderosa ranch is placed in Nevada on the shores of Lake Tahoe and is named after the Ponderosa pine which is very common along the west. City of Virginia is the nearest town to the ranch and this is where the Cartwright family visit often for conversing with the Sheriff Roy coffee portrayed by Ray Teal or with Clem Foster, the deputy played by Bing Russell. Blocker, Landon, Roberts and Greene are stars of equal stature and hence the credits at the opening revolves around the four names every time. As the story progressed it concentrated on one or two of the family in one episode giving the actors enough free time.

The initial idea was to portray the Cartwright family as people who are not amiable to strangers but the same was changed when Lorne Greene observed that being the biggest producer of livestock and timber, the family cannot be too clannish.

Initially, the character Ben Cartwright goes into flashback about one of his wives in an episode. Whenever a member from the family of Cartwright get involved with a woman she is either slain or leaves with another person or she dies from a disease.

Some of the episodes in the year 1964 showed another character by the name Will, played by Guy Williams, who is a visitor on the Ponderosa Ranch and is also the nephew of Ben. He is the son of Ben’s brother who is no more.

The title of the show “Bonanza” is an inspiration from the term used by the miners when they are referring to a large deposit or vein of ore.

The series Bonanza was stopped midway abruptly in the year 1972-73. However this show ran for nearly fourteen years which is not a normal feat in the industry of television series.

Jed Clampett, a poor hillbilly along with Duke, his dog unearth an oil well while hunting for food. And instantly the property of the Clampetts is purchased by the OK oil firm for an amount of 25 million dollars.

Pearl, the cousin of Jed convinces him to move with his family to Beverly Hills in California. Hence Jed drives to the West coast in his truck along with Jethro, his nephew, “Granny” his mother-in-law and Elly May his daughter. The series is full of trivial but funny situations.

The family moves next door to Milburn Drysdale, a greedy banker who takes the family into his wings in the hope of getting the millions of the Clampetts into his bank. The main plot in the initial episodes were about how the family adjusts to the fast moving life in the city and how the wisdom of Jed Clampett helps in winning every situation. While the Hillbillies live in a mansion which has its own plumbing indoor along with a pond they still don’t forget their roots from the hills. The efforts of Drysdale in ensuring that the Clampetts stay happier in the city in order to ensure that their money stays put in his bank is the center plot in many of the shows. Some of the storylines include the enrolment of Jethro in an elementary school, medical practice that Granny opens, movie studio which Jed buys and a beau for Elly May.

Always rich in the absurd, the series was chock full of lowbrow but hilarious situations. As sitcom humor would have it, Jed and his brood move next door to the greedy banker, Milburn Drysdale, who in an effort to make his financial institution the home of the Clampett millions, takes the fresh-off-the-farm family under his wing. Most of the early shows revolve around the impossible adjustments the poor mountain folk must make to city life, and Jed Clampett’s backwoods brand of wisdom always wins out in the end. Despite their brand-new mansion with its cement pond and indoor plumbing, the Hillbillies stay true to their rustic roots. Many episodes center around Drysdale’s attempts to keep the Clampetts in good spirits in their big-city setting (thus keeping their money in his bank). Enrolling Jethro in elementary school, buying Jed a movie studio, letting Granny open a medical practice and finding Elly May a beau are just a few of the silly but entertaining storylines.

Detective Sergeant Joe Friday opened this program week on week with the same words which goes as “This is the city, Los Angeles, California. I work here, I carry a badge.”
This is followed by the theme music “Dum-de-dum-dum” which is found quite captivating.

This series can be considered as the most famous drama on police in the industry of television. The unique feature of Dragnet was the way the reality was portrayed in it, right from the style with which the case is narrated by Joe Friday in a documentary way to the point where it showed cases from the real files of L.A.P.D bringing the finest details of detective work to the attention of the public (“It was 3:55…We were working the day watch out of homicide.”). The series reminded the viewers on the not so glamorous cases and the way their privacy was intruded in case of police men which eventually made the final encounter with the criminal more exciting to watch. Once the criminal is apprehended at the episode’s end, the trial and the sentence given to the criminal is described by an announcer. Jack Webb was the creator and the director of this series. The phrases used in this series became the bywords of the nation soon. For instance the ones from Jack Webb “My name is Friday – I am a cop” and “Just the facts ma’am”.
The sparse, stunning style of the classic series “Dragnet” has influenced the police genre for over fifty years. Director/star Jack Webb struck new ground through his pursuit of authenticity, extracting the stories from actual LAPD cases and focusing on deductive and investigative police work. Begun in 1949 as a radio program, the original television series ran from 1952 through 1959 and was the most popular detective series of the decade. Three movies were produced featuring Joe Friday, including one in 1987 starring Dan Aykroyd. The series returned to the air in the 1960′s for a second series and the legacy continues with the contemporary series starring Ed O’Neill.

The character of Sir Lancelot du Lac is designed as the one who fights against greed, prejudice and injustice when he was serving under King Arthur and the Round table of knights.

The series, one among the various adventure historical films from ITC series, was shown for a period of three years from 1955 to 1957 and it depicted the way Sir Lancelot and Squire Brian confront conspirators and is filmed made in the form of adventure. William Russell played the role of the legendary Sir Lancelot. The sets of the series was lavishly done based on the settings from 14th century by researching on the same at the University of Oxford despite the fact that it was 6th century when King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. A village with goats, huts and sheep was constructed in the Nettlefold studios which transported one to a period before Norman conquest. This setting was used in many other similar series from ITC including the famous The adventures of Robin Hood. For the shots outside, the Allington castle was requisitioned by the company, which with its long time history of Saxons, Romans and Ancient Britons was most suited for this kind of a series. The series was written by people including the emigrant Americans who the McCarthy subcommittee blacklisted in regards with communism in the entertainment industry of US. A small role was played by the actor Patrick McGoohan in an episode and it was in this set where he met Ralph Smart who later created the Danger Man which propelled Patrick McGoohan to glory.

Ordinarily that would be sufficient to ensure the completion of his mission, but opposing Stuart is a large and powerful band of scoundrels headed by deposed Spanish governor Escobedo Dupray, who hopes to regain dictatorial powers in the new Mexican territory by scuttling the treaty and destroying the wagon train. Dupray has imposing lieutenants in Zamorro and Macklin. Neither Stuart nor the pioneers could survive the treachery were it not for the repeated intervention of a mysterious, war-bonneted warrior astride a painted stallion. Time after time the Rider’s whistling arrows give warning of impending disaster until the final spectacular confrontation at a caverned escarpment near Santa Fe.

Best of the wagons westward serials, with a strong cast, dramatically photographed action, a fine score, and, in the Rider, an element of mystery seldom found in Westerns. Ray Corrigan, in buckskins and above-the-knee boots, is a noble and good-natured Clark Stuart. His breathtaking gallops across arresting landscapes are striking even on a small screen (as are those of the Rider). And if one hero is not enough, this serial has a mature, yet nonetheless dauntless, wagon boss, Hoot Gibson and, for good measure, not only the Rider, but also Jack Perrin. of silent days, as Davy Crockett, and the versatile Hal Taliaferro as Jim Bowie. (Sammy McKim is a spunky Kit Carson, who saves Stuart’s life more than once.) As Dupray, LeRoy Mason is at his villainous best. He has to be to keep ahead of the fiery Duncan Renaldo and the surly Maston Williams, whose Macklin is as mean a henchman as the serial screen ever displayed. Leading lady Julia Thayer, also known as Jean Carmen, makes a noteworthy contribution to the adventure, her role being etched into the memory of original viewers, young fellers particularly. Oscar and Elmer, rube comics–and the only exceptions to the general excellence–contribute generally embarrassing bits, but they do so enthusiastically, at least.

William Nobles and Edgar Lyons deserve special mention for their outstanding camera work, which frequently emphasizes vertical perpectives, from canyon floor or clifftop. The shots of the Rider outlined on a distant elevation stay in memory, as does the sequence in which the camera tilts downward to capture the Rider, trapped in a small canyon and urging the Painted Stallion to the left, then the right, in a futile effort to break free. The scene generates the same kind of desperation viewers would encounter five decades later when the Pawnee raider is encircled in shallow water during Kevin Costner’s Dances with Wolves.

Accenting the cinematography, which sometimes suggests still landscapes, is the balanced musical collage of Raoul Kraushaar. Representing a transitional span between the canned accompaniments of earlier days and the creative scoring of subsequent Republic efforts, it aptly incorporates screen composer Hugo Riesenfeld’s “Pinto,” as well as an affecting theme associated with the Rider. With this film William Witney advanced to directing status. Yakima Canutt both set up and participated in the stunt work.

In this thrilling serial, Zorro, the masked avenger, comes face to face with his most brutal foe yet–the warlord Don Del Oro. From his stronghold in the mountains, Del Oro plots to dominate the Indian population for his own gains by posing as an ancient god! It’s up to Zorro to put an end to Del Oro’s evil ways and restore law and order.

Produced by Republic Pictures during the Golden Age of Serials, Zorro’s Fighting Legion features continuous cliff-hanging action, swordplay, explosions and spectacular stuntwork.

Plot Synopsis:
In 1824, Benito Juarez (Carlton Young), the president of the new Mexican Republic, worries that vitally important gold shipments from the San Mendolito Mines shall never reach Mexico City. The president’s understandable fears are quelled, however, by local nobleman Don Francisco (Guy D’Ennery), who is organizing a “fighting legion” to protect the shipments and thus the safety of the six months old republic. Secretly opposing Juarez’ endeavors are a group of influential capitalists, one of whom masquerades as Don del Oro, an ancient god of the local Yaqui Indian tribe. But when Don Francisco is killed by persons unknown, a visiting relative from California, handsome and affable Don Diego (Reed Hadley), assumes the disguise of Zorro to lead the legion in search of the identity behind the homicidal Don del Oro. To keep his own identity a secret, Don Diego acts the foppish dude, much to the dismay of his pretty cousin Volita (Sheila Darcy), who denounces him as a coward that could learn a thing or two from Zorro. Meanwhile, the Yaquis, acting on a command from Don del Oro, do indeed attack the gold shipment but are foiled by Zorro and the Legion. Just then an explosion set off by white henchmen Moreno (James Pierce) and Valdez (Charles King) causes an avalanche right in Zorro’s path, making his sad demise almost a certainty.

The legendary Zorro returns!

The legendary black-clad avenger of evil returns in this action-packed serial. Lovely Crescent City newspaper editor Barbara Meredith (Linda Stirling) is actually “The Black Whip,” an elusive masked figure that lashes out against the corrupt Hammond (Francis McDonald) and his fiendish band of outlaws who are determined to keep Idaho from joining the Union. She teams up with dashing undercover Federal agent Vic Gordon (George J. Lewis) in a quest to defeat the vicious sidewinders and bring statehood to Idaho. This action cliff-hanger is loaded with runaway stagecoach chases, six-gun duels, rampaging fistfights and devastating explosions as The Black Whip blazes a trail through the Old West.

Plot Synopsis
Popular latter-day serial queen Linda Stirling starred in the title role in this well-made 12 chapter serial produced by genre specialist Republic Pictures. Stirling plays Barbara Mededith, a pretty girl who takes over her murdered brother’s crusading newspaper. She also assumes the dead sibling’s identity as “The Black Whip,” righting the wrongs of Crescent City very much in the manner of her famous ancestor, Zorro. Off course, “being a mere woman,” Barbara needs the assistance of a stalwart young man, in this case Vic Gordon (George J. Lewis), a government secret agent. Arguably the most popular serial heroine since the days of Pearl White, Linda Stirling’s other top-billed serial role was as The Tiger Woman (1944). The choice of Lewis as Stirling’s male lead was surprising; the Mexican-born Lewis, although handsome enough and a veteran of Universal’s popular “Collegians” 2-reelers, had recently played mostly villains. Produced by Ronald Davidson, Zorro’s Black Whip benefitted from second unit direction by stunt-man extraordinaire Yakima Canutt and special effects by the famed Theodore Lydecker.

A modern-day descendant of the famous masked avenger, Zorro (John Carroll), in this western serial, rides into action to prevent a greedy industrialist from sabotaging the California-Yucatan railroad.
Can one black-clad man on horseback defeat a gang supplied with airplanes and machine guns?

Plot Synopsis
Actually it’s the great-grandson of legendary 19th century do-gooder Zorro who rides in this 12-chapter Republic serial. Villainous modern-day tycoon Marsden (Noah Beery) supervises the activities of a western outlaw gang from the plush confines of his Manhattan skyscraper. It is Marsden’s hope to grab control of a new California-to-Yucatan railroad, and there isn’t any low to which he will not stoop to get what he wants; he even deploys a modernistic machine gun and an art-deco twin-prop fighter plane. Recalling the heroic exploits of Zorro, a group of beleaguered Californians send for the masked hero’s great-grandkid James Vega (John Carroll), only to find out that he’s an airheaded playboy, more interested in his golf score than saving humanity. But like his famous ancestor, Vega rises to the occasion, adopting the mask, cape and whip of Zorro to settle Marsden’s hash for good. Outside of its usual quota of thrills and spills, Zorro Rides Again is one of the few serials that can boast a theme song (“Zorro rides again — riding along, singing a song” etc.)
