Watson claims that he was hit in the eye by Albert Higgins a half hour after he had watched him die of a heart attack. He was however the counterfeiter “Poundnote” Higgins, now daywatchman at the Pembroke Museum, where Leonardo’s “Moonlight Madonna” is being shown. His boss, Mr. Benton, his replacement and his landlady, Mrs. Maggie Blake all contradict Watson’s time of death.
The adventures of master detective Sherlock Holmes as he and his assistant, Dr. Watson and, somewhat reluctantly, the bumbling Inspector Lestrade, battle criminals in London…
Produced in Europe for American audiences, the “Sherlock Holmes” 1954 TV series captures the essence of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s characters and themes. Ronald Howard (son of film star Leslie Howard) stars as the intensely analytical Holmes, aided by Dr. Watson (H. Marion Crawford) and antagonized by the Inspector Lestrade (Archie Duncan).
